Methodology

Find it. Fix it.
Keep it under control.

IT is changing faster than most businesses can keep up with. I help you get clarity on what actually matters and make technology work for the business.

Independence

I have no products to sell you.

Every IT recommendation in the market comes with something attached. A product, a margin, a vendor relationship that shapes what gets recommended. Mine doesn't. I earn from the quality of the advice, not from what you buy as a result.

That's not a small thing. It changes every conversation.

I'm not working from a checklist. I'm listening. Most businesses have a mix of real risks, missed opportunities, and things that only feel urgent because a vendor made them sound that way. My job is to tell the difference.

How it works

Start with a conversation. Build from there.

01

Risk and Clarity Session

60 to 90 minutes

We talk through your situation. I identify what is actually at risk and show you where money is being wasted. You leave with clarity, not a report.

  • Your biggest risks, ranked by urgency
  • Immediate actions: what to do this week
  • Wasted spend flagged and quantified
  • A straight answer on whether ongoing advisory makes sense
02

Decision Map

Weeks 1 to 4

A clear, prioritised plan. What to fix first. What to leave alone. What you thought was urgent that actually isn't. No jargon.

  • IT decisions with a clear owner for the first time
  • Supplier performance reviewed and challenged
  • Quick wins identified and started
  • A realistic roadmap, not a wish list
03

Control Layer

Months 1 to 3

I work alongside your existing IT suppliers to challenge bad recommendations, stop unnecessary spend, and make sure the right things get done properly.

  • Vendors guided and held to account
  • Bad spend stopped before it becomes a habit
  • Security gaps closed, not just noted
  • IT stops being a source of worry
04

Ongoing IT Leadership

Ongoing

You bring decisions to me. I stay in your corner. Monthly advisory, decisions on demand, board reporting in plain English.

  • IT decisions made with confidence
  • A trusted advisor with no vendor agenda
  • Clear reporting on risk and spend
  • Someone who tells you what your IT company will not

Outcome: 100% Remote Capability + Cost Reduction

How I work with you

No lock-in. No vendor agenda.

A small client list, by design

I work with a limited number of clients at any one time. Not because I can't take on more, because doing this well requires knowing your business well enough to give you an honest answer at short notice.

Straight talk, always

No vendor bias. If something isn't worth spending money on, I will tell you that.

Wasted spend found in 30 days

If I don't identify obvious wasted IT spend within 30 days of working together, I'll re-review your setup at no cost.

Dave Lane
About Dave Lane

"I don't just advise from the outside. I know what it feels like to own the risk."

I started working in IT in 2000. For 25 years, I've worked across IT systems, security, risk management, and how businesses actually make technology decisions. Not built on theory or frameworks. On fixing broken systems and protecting real businesses.

Crucially, I run a small business myself. I understand commercial reality: cash flow, margin, trade-offs, and pressure.

I am direct and precise with language. I will push back when language obscures accountability. I am comfortable saying "no" when it matters.

Find out what's actually at risk.

The Risk and Clarity Session covers your real exposure. You leave with clarity and a clear next step. No report.
